Sir Leo Hielscher Bridge

When the Gateway Bridge Duplication opened in Brisbane in May the pair of bridges were renamed the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges.

In a remarkable demonstration of foresight, the Queensland Government also included a cycle and pedestrian path in the design.

To a guy who loves cycling and heights the lure created by the combination of both proved irresistible
A mere 30 km round trip from our place by bicycle and a climb to an altitude of 80 metres.  Although the speed limit for cyclists is restricted to 10 KmH, calculations suggest you could hit 50 KmH simply coasting downhill, without pedalling.
And the view from the top? Unfortunately the cycle path is on the opposite side to the city and the view towards the East and Moreton Bay, quite unremarkable.
