As Aussies living in Seattle, we were really struck with the patriotism shown in the USA towards their flag, especially around 4 July. At that time, Australians were no less proud of our own flag but were more laidback about our national day and flying the flag was more understated.
Today we took a drive down to the Gold Coast and along the foreshore, there were many many gatherings and EVERYWHERE Australian flags fluttered as well as people wearing it as clothing or with it draped over them.
We've had a flag for our whole married life and it has travelled with us always and we have flown it proudly in places such as Tel-Aviv and Seattle. DH had it before we were married.
So to all Aussies wherever you are.....
